Five More Seasonal Flu Deaths


The number of flu-related hospitalizations and deaths since last fall have been off-the-charts high in Oklahoma, which is the reason for the move to offer the immunizations at no cost. So far this season, health officials said 114 children nationwide have died from the flu.

Health department official stress it's not too late to get a flu shot.

DE has seen nearly 6,700 lab-confirmed cases of the flu during the 2017-2018 flu season.

"We strongly encourage everyone to continue practicing the important preventive measures we have been promoting including staying home when you're sick, calling your doctor at the first signs of flu-like illness, washing your hands frequently, and covering coughs and sneezes", Rattay said.

The worst of the flu season is likely over.

The number of flu-related deaths in Pennsylvania continues to climb - to 169 this year - and the majority of those cases involve residents 50 or older. "There still is a lot of flu out there", Dr. Alicia Fry, who works in the influenza division at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Friday, according to NPR. Included in the total are four pediatric deaths.

Is the worst of the flu season yet to come?

The 893 new cases bring the season total to 6,674 laboratory-confirmed influenza cases for the 2017-2018 season, the highest number of confirmed cases since record-keeping began in the 2004-2005 season.

The flu has claimed five more lives in Delaware.

On Friday, Campbell County Memorial Hospital implemented a handful of visiting restrictions in the maternal and child unit for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) - not for flu.
