Tiger Woods set to play US PGA Valspar, Palmer events

Tiger Woods will continue his preparation for the Masters by taking part in the Valspar Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational this month.

It means Woods will now join Rory McIlroy who will also be contesting the Valspar Championship for a first time and in what will be McIlroy's sixth event ahead of the Masters.

The PGA saw its highest rating of the season with Tiger playing on the weekend and saw a almost 40 per cent jump in TV viewership from last year's Honda Classic when the colourful and popular American Rickie Fowler was on the leaderboard.

Woods has won the Arnold Palmer Invitational eight times.

Tiger Woods hopes to get 144 more tournament holes in before Augusta. The final round is Sunday, March 11. He missed the cut the next time out after a second-round 76 at the Genesis Open at Riviera. He said he was surprised how quickly he was progressing with his new swing following a fourth back surgery last April and that he's right on track in his pre-Masters build up. The Valspar Championship is played on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Resort near Tampa.

Woods noted after the Honda Classic that he needs to get stronger and sharper before driving down Magnolia Lane. Woods won again in 2013 to tie Sam Snead for the most victories in one tournament.

"I don't think he's all the way there and all the way back".

"I need to keep playing tournament golf, but I need to keep building on it", he added. "I'm starting to get into it quicker, feel the pace, feel the shots and get a better sense of it". Each and every time I've come out to tournaments, I'm getting the feel of the round faster.
