Chelsea have announced the signing of Ross Barkley from Everton, the playmaker joining the Premier League champions for a reported £15million.

Reportedly set to undergo a medical on Friday, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley looks close to completing a £15m move to Chelsea.

The England worldwide joined the Blues for £15 million on a five-and-a-half year contract, after failing to make a switch in the summer due to hamstring injury.

According to the Telegraph, Barkley has been impressed by Chelsea's persistence to procure his signature and now has no hesitations to move to Stamford Bridge.

"To be given a fresh start at a new club like Chelsea, it's unbelievable for me".

Barkley said he wanted to get fit and then reassess his future in this transfer window.

"For Chelsea also it would be positive to buy English players because we lost important players like John Terry, Frank Lampard from this club, this country".

For me Barkley has the ability to be one of the best players of his generation, his talents are such that only a handful of Premier League players could be his equivalent - for me he can be that good.

"We are talking about a player with great potential", Conte said at Cobham Training Centre. I think the club decided on this investment also for his contract. Ross Barkley is a Chelsea player, good luck to him. "He's very young, I think he has a lot of space for improvement, he's very strong physically with good technique".

Conte had expressed his opinion to the Chelsea hierarchy and left them to do the negotiationsm but has been a big fan of Barkley for a long time.

"He had a bad injury, he had surgery and he hasn't played for seven months".

Conte declined to address rumours West Ham striker Andy Carroll was a target, saying transfers were not his remit.

Eden Hazard, who was likely to be rested anyway, is a doubt after being kicked on the calf in Wednesday's draw at Arsenal.
