SIM-free iPhone X now available from Apple in the US

In the market for an unlocked iPhone X? Prefer a regional carrier, an MVNO, or virtually an other option? There are no installment plans for an unlocked iPhone X, as you'd typically get through your carrier or Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program. If you selected the SIM-free iPhone, you'll need to insert your own nano-SIM card or obtain one from the supported carrier of your choice and activate it in order to use your iPhone. The option also exists to pick up the phone from your local Apple Store, assuming there is one nearby.

The iPhone X earned an "excellent" rating in PCMag's review, nabbing props for its "updated design", "powerful processor", "excellent screen", "first-of-its-kind augmented reality front camera", and-of course-its ability to create animoji.

Reports of the iPhone X running in short supply raised questions on when an unlocked iPhone X might be made available, especially among users who didn't want to be tied to a specific telco with a standard, two-year contract.

The threat of backorders and shipping delays have dogged the iPhone X since before the phone even launched. The SIM-free model Apple is selling is expected to be the Qualcomm version, as that one supports all four United States carriers. However, when you purchase the SIM-free model, you'll for sure be getting the iPhone X model with the Qualcomm modem, allowing you to connect to both GSM and CDMA networks.
