Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher gives instructions to his team during the first half of an NCAA college football game against Boston College in Boston, Friday, Oct. 27, 2017. His Seminoles won a national championship in 2013.
Fisher, 52, had hoped to wait to announce his decision until after Saturday's regular-season finale, which the Seminoles (5-6, 3-5 ACC) need to win to extend their streak of 35 consecutive bowl games.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Jimbo Fisher has agreed to a deal with Texas A&M.
Fisher is just the fourth head coach to leave a school where he has won an AP national championship and go directly to another college job.
Students here at FSU have mixed feelings on Fisher's resignation, but the overwhelming majority we spoke with say they're shocked and saddened by the news.More news: Pope Francis joins prayer service at Suhrawardy Udyan
He had been coaching the team for eight years with a 83-23 record. "I've been waiting to come to this school and it's like really upsetting".
Nick Saban is being paid an average of $8.1 million per year. His $5.7 million salary is the sixth-highest among FBS coaches this season.
Fisher previously spent time at Auburn (1993-1998) and LSU (2000-06) as an assistant coach, making this a return to the SEC.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said that Fisher did an unbelievable job.
"Obviously, he feels like it's the right move for him". The top name so far has been first-year OR coach Willie Taggart, who took over at OR last offseason after turning around the South Florida program. They'll hire a great coach.
