Ole Miss names interim Matt Luke its permanent coach

Ole Miss is in a hard spot, but Luke held the ship together on short notice when Hugh Freeze was let go following NCAA turmoil this offseason.

This news conference had a much more positive feel than Luke's introduction as the interim coach, when the program was still reeling from previous coach Hugh Freeze's sudden resignation. As a result of the school self-imposing a postseason ban in response to an NCAA investigation in which the governing body has yet to make a final ruling, Ole Miss saw its season come to an end Thursday night. With a 33-yard field goal against rival Mississippi State, Wunderlich became the Ole Miss career record holder in field goals made (64), points scored (350) and points kicking (350).

"We changed the culture in four months, imagine what we can do in a full off-season", Luke said. He was an Ole Miss assistant coach from 2002-05 and returned in 2012 as co-offensive coordinator.

Luke played his college football at Ole Miss, playing center for the Rebels from 1995 through 1998.
