OnePlus officially unveils the OnePlus 5T smartphone

OnePlus 5 is without a doubt a fan favorite and with the news that Oreo will be out this month, many will indeed be delighted to see the phone get the new OS.

We'll give the 5T a full breakdown during our benchmarks, but first impressions are good so it looks like OnePlus has produced yet another victor. Apparently, the back panel of the phone undergoes two lots of sandblasting before receiving an anti-fingerprint layer. Pair all that with the price of Rs 32,999, which is unchanged from their last flagship OnePlus 5. Also, the screen gets a 18:9 aspect ratio within a build similar to the OnePlus 5, thanks to a 80.5 per cent screen to body ratio.

Another major change in the OnePlus 5T is that the smartphone maker has moved it fingerprint sensor the back.

Turning to the rear, we have the metallic unibody finish, which is identical to the OnePlus 5.

Just like the OnePlus 5 was, the 5T is also the fastest phone we have ever used besides the Pixel 2 this year.

OnePlus 5T will be available starting November 21 in North America, Europe and India. The effect covers nearly the entirety of the front face of the phone, as the display stretches nearly entirely to the left and right edges while leaving only half a centimetre of bezel at the top and bottom. The phone also features Facial Recognition technology for unlocking that uses 100 points on the face for authentication. On the photography front it retains the same 16 MP + 20 MP dual rear camera setup from the OnePlus 5 but wears new lenses with an f/1.7 aperture to capture more light.

OnePlus 5T also comes with Dash Charge technology, powering the same 3,300mAh battery. There is no wireless charging. It's the latter which makes the OnePlus 5T particularly enticing.

OnePlus 5T features a 6.01-inch, 18:9 ratio, 2,160×1,080 pixels, Full Optic AMOLED display that looks handsome with the all-aluminum, sleek body.

There's also a handful of new additions, most notably a soft-key shortcut bar to replace the physical button and lights of the old bezel. Instead, it was busy readying to jump on the thin-bezel bandwagon. "Users can calibrate their screens based on their viewing preferences across four different modes, including default, sRGB, DCI-P3 and adaptive", said OnePlus in a product note for its new phone.

After the display, only the changes made to the camera system are really significant.

A top-notch processor, 6 or 8GM of RAM, one of the best dual camera setups with an enhanced portrait mode and the stunning 6-inch edge-to-edge display at less than half the price of iPhone X, makes the OnePlus 5T a serious contender.

On the software side apart from Face Unlock, the OnePlus 5T unfortunately ships with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, but beta software for Android Oreo will be rolled out in December. OxygenOS's support for fingerprint gestures lets you swipe down to pull down the notification shade, and long press while inside the camera app to take a photo.
