Maraj, who has denied the accusations, was found guilty of predatory sexual assault on the child at his Long Island home by jurors at Nassau County courtroom in NY on Thursday (9 November), CBS News has reported.
He will be sentenced on December 14; he was charged on a felony charge of predatory sexual assault on a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
Maraj's lawyers said during a almost one-month trial that the rape allegations were concocted by the girl's mother as part of a scheme to get Nicki Minaj to pay the family $25 million in hush money. He faces 25 years to life in prison. His lawyer has said he will appeal the judgment.
Maraj did not appear to react when the verdict was read in a Nassau County courtroom.
Prosecutors alleged at trial that Maraj started abusing the victim when she was 11, and raped her repeatedly between April and November 2015 while her mother was working, Brosh says.More news: Scientists: Sheep recognize faces as people
Juror Arthur Naclerio, 67, of Massapequa, said the victim's testimony was the most convincing piece of evidence.
Soon after his arrest in 2015, Maraj was released from custody on $100,000 bail, reportedly backed by two of his sister's homes. The girl testified that Maraj treated her as his own daughter before he began raping her. Maraj would molest the girl when her mother (his then-wife) would go to work.
Maraj said to the little boy that if he told anybody, he would never see his mother again.
But a prosecution witness testified that semen found on the accuser's pajama bottoms was a one-in-291 billion match with defendant Maraj.
Maraj's ex-wife vehemently denied this allegation.
Maraj is set to be sentenced on 14 December. Civil attorney James R. Ray III briefly represented the mother and testified that he did demand $25 million from Maraj after he was arrested.
