A Pakistani woman has been arrested for allegedly killing 13 members of her family by poison as a revolt to forced marriage.
The incident occurred in Daulatpur village in the Muzaffargarh area of the Punjab region on Friday, the Express Tribune reports.
Bibi was apparently forced into an arranged marriage in September.
Miserable and disappointed by her new life, she chose to murder her husband.
Bibi said she had warned her parents that she was capable of going to any length to get out of the marriage, but they refused to allow her to get a divorce. Instead, her mother-in-law poured the poisoned substance into a Value-Added Tax kept by the family, and drew from it the next day to make lassi and butter.More news: Two US Navy SEALs 'investigated over Green Beret strangulation death in Mali'
In total, 27 family members drank this mixture, none realising about the poison. With this attempt failed, she then made a decision to poison her husband.
District Police Officer Awais Ahmad Malik said the kind of poison used would only be clear after chemical tests on the victims. The newly-wed soon left her husband's home but her family forcibly sent her back to her in-laws' house. A man, believed to be the woman's boyfriend, Shahid, and his aunt, Zarina Mai, were also arrested, Geo TV said.
According to DailyMail, Bibi was provided with poisonous substance by her alleged lover, Shahid Lashari, to murder her husband.
Initially, it was claimed that a lizard had fallen into the milk, poisoning it.
"But she confessed her role in the custody", said police. But her parents ignored her threats.
